Triumph Over Adversity: How Wockhardt Hospitals Supported a High-Risk Pregnancy and Delivered a Miracle
Mrs. Rinki Yadav, a 37-year-old woman with a history of Rheumatoid Arthritis and multiple miscarriages, recently achieved a profound personal victory with the help of Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road. Her journey, marked by repeated challenges and high-risk pregnancies, culminated in the safe delivery of a baby despite severe complications.
Mrs. Yadav’s struggles with pregnancy began in 2019, shortly after her marriage. Her initial pregnancies ended in miscarriage, with diagnoses ranging from spontaneous abortion to a Blighted Ovum and a chromosomal abnormality known as Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome). Despite these setbacks, Mrs. Yadav conceived for the fourth time in September 2023.
This pregnancy was fraught with complications. Diagnosed with Complete Placenta Previa and elevated blood pressure, Mrs. Yadav required bed rest and meticulous monitoring throughout her pregnancy. Complete Placenta Previa, a condition that poses serious risks to both mother and fetus, increases the likelihood of severe bleeding and potential complications such as preterm labor and low birth weight.
On April 18, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Mrs. Yadav arrived at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road’s Emergency Department. The medical team, well-prepared for her arrival, promptly initiated conservative treatment, including steroid injections and magnesium sulfate infusion to aid in lung maturity and mitigate neurological complications. Continuous monitoring and relevant investigations were conducted to assess the baby’s condition.
Given the gravity of the situation, including the potential dangers to both mother and child, the decision was made to perform a cesarean section. Dr. Mangala Patil, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist; Dr. S. N. Agarwal, Consultant Senior Gynaecologist; and Dr. Nitu Mundhra, Consultant Pediatrician & Neonatologist, performed the procedure.
Following delivery, the baby, weighing around 1.6 kg, was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 35 days due to premature birth and related complications. The NICU at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, is renowned for its state-of-the-art facilities and expert care, providing a robust support system for critical neonatal care.
Dr. Mangala Patil praised the hospital’s capabilities, stating, “Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, stands as a beacon for families navigating high-risk pregnancies and complex newborn care needs. Our NICU is equipped with cutting-edge technology and a comprehensive support system, ensuring effective management of even the most challenging situations. Mrs. Rinki Yadav expressed profound gratitude, reflecting on her journey: “After three abortions and a serious health crisis, I had little hope for my baby’s survival. Yet, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, surpassed all my expectations. The advanced technology and skilled experts turned what seemed impossible into a reality. Holding my baby for the first time was an overwhelming moment of joy. We are eternally grateful to the team of doctors who saved both my life and my baby’s.”
