Resident Doctors Protest at Jantar Mantar, Demand Justice for Abhaya
Amid heavy rains at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, resident doctors from Safdarjung Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, and Maulana Azad Medical College staged a protest, raising powerful slogans like, "Abhaya, we are ashamed that your murderers are still alive. We demand justice. It is now or never." The doctors were united in their demand for justice for Abhaya, a female resident doctor who was brutally raped and murdered.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage across the medical community, leading to widespread protests and a halt in healthcare services by resident doctors nationwide. The protesters are not only seeking justice for Abhaya but are also demanding the implementation of the Central Healthcare Protection Act to ensure the safety and security of healthcare professionals.
Dr. Sharda Prasad Sahu, President of the Resident Doctors' Association at Lady Hardinge Medical College, expressed the collective sentiment of the medical community: "We are protesting again today because we continue to demand security for doctors and justice for Abhaya."
The ongoing protests underscore the urgent need for stronger protections for doctors and healthcare workers in India, as the community rallies together to seek justice and push for systemic change.
