Medical Community Calls for Urgent Action to Combat Violence Against Doctors

Dr. Radha Jain, President of the East Delhi Medical Association, has voiced deep concerns over the persistent violence against doctors and the vandalism of healthcare facilities across the country. Her remarks come amidst growing unrest within the medical community, which has been rallying for stronger protective measures.

Dr. Jain was among the many healthcare professionals who gathered at Delhi's historic Jantar Mantar, advocating for the immediate implementation of the Central Healthcare Protection Act. This legislation, they believe, holds the potential to curb the increasing incidents of violence against doctors in healthcare settings.

"Doctors are now questioning whether it is safe to continue in their profession," Dr. Jain lamented, highlighting the fear and uncertainty that has gripped the medical community. "Hospitals are supposed to be safe zones. If they are not safe, how can we effectively treat our patients?"

Dr. Jain's comments reflect the growing disillusionment among healthcare workers, particularly after a tragic incident in Kolkata that has shaken their faith in the existing state-level laws. "The faith in the current laws, which vary from state to state, has eroded completely," she stated.

The gathering at Jantar Mantar was not just about expressing grievances but also about seeking justice for Abhaya, a fellow healthcare worker whose case has become a rallying point for the community. "We demand that the Central Healthcare Protection Act be implemented without delay to ensure the safety and security of all healthcare workers," Dr. Jain urged.

As the medical community continues to face threats and challenges, their call for stronger legal protections is growing louder, with hopes that the government will take swift and decisive action.
