Wockhardt Cyclothon Season 3 Draws Over 1,200 Cyclists, Promotes Heart Health Awareness

Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, organised one of the region's largest cycling events, the Wockhardt Cyclothon Season 3, attracting over 1,200 cycling enthusiasts from across Mumbai. Held on Sunday, September 1st, the event aimed to raise awareness about heart health in celebration of World Heart Day, which falls on September 29, 2024.

The cyclothon featured two ride categories—30 km and 15 km—traversing the scenic Uttan-Gorai Island. More than just a fitness challenge, the event symbolized a growing commitment to leading healthier lifestyles while emphasizing the importance of heart health.

Dr. Mayuresh Pradhan, Consultant Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeon, emphasized the benefits of cycling for heart health. “Heart problems are no longer limited to older generations. Around 75% of people diagnosed with heart disease fail to exercise regularly. Cycling is an excellent form of exercise that promotes cardiovascular health, helps manage weight, and reduces the risk of heart disease, hypertension, and cholesterol levels. With each pedal, the heart works harder, boosting blood flow and oxygen supply to vital organs," said Dr. Pradhan.

Dr. Pankaj Dhamija, Centre Head at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, highlighted the impact of events like the Cyclothon in promoting heart health education. “Cyclothons provide an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about heart health while encouraging participants to embrace physical activity as a lifelong habit. We are thrilled by the enthusiasm and participation, which reinforces that heart health is not just an individual responsibility but a collective journey,” said Dr. Dhamija.

Sanjay Katkar, Honourable Municipal Commissioner of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, supported the initiative, encouraging citizens to adopt cycling as a regular activity for better health.

Participants of all ages took part in the event, with Gajendra Umra, 75 years old and the eldest participant, sharing his experience: “I feel refreshed and relaxed after cycling. For office workers like me, it is crucial to find time for exercise. Cycling not only keeps me fit but also promotes overall well-being. I urge people of all age groups to take up cycling.”

The Wockhardt Cyclothon Season 3 was not only a celebration of endurance but also a strong message about the importance of regular exercise and proactive heart health management. The event underscored that physical activity, such as cycling, can lead to healthier, longer lives while combating the rising trend of heart disease across all age groups.
