Nadda Praises National Medical Commission's Achievements at fourth Anniversary Celebration

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda, marked the 4th anniversary of the National Medical Commission (NMC) by congratulating the body for its outstanding contributions to medical education in India. During the ceremony, he commended the NMC for successfully adding 25,000 undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical seats over the past four years. He also lauded the Commission for achieving the milestone of 1,00,000 MBBS seats a year ahead of schedule.

Nadda encouraged the NMC to continue its progress by working toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi's target of adding 75,000 more medical seats over the next five years, a move aimed at addressing the increasing demand from aspiring medical professionals.

Highlighting the NMC’s integration of modern technology, Shri Nadda praised the use of artificial intelligence in assessing medical colleges and the implementation of Aadhar-enabled biometric attendance systems (AEBAS) for faculty. He urged the NMC to maintain its focus on improving the quality of medical education in the country. He also spotlighted the National Medical Register (NMR), describing it as a "dynamic database for all allopathic doctors," noting that it has already received around 20,000 applications.

The Union Minister also emphasized the NMC’s efforts to serve public health through initiatives like the Family Adoption Program. This program, designed to prepare MBBS students to become more compassionate and skilled clinicians, reflects a growing focus on preventive healthcare and wellness.

During the event, Shri Nadda released three significant publications: a collection of 89 essays titled "Making of a Family Physician: Reaching the Roots," a collage book featuring 67 selected works titled "Art of Making of a Family Physician: Reaching the Roots," and a survey report on medical camps conducted by second-year MBBS students as part of the Family Adoption Program. These medical camps were carried out in 2022 across 496 colleges in 28 states and Union Territories.

Nadda also honored students who excelled in writing essays and creating collages, and concluded his address by congratulating the new batch of MBBS students who recently secured admission across the country.
