A View of the panel discussion during ICIADR-2024

Innovations in Drug Research Take Center Stage at ICIADR-2024 Day 2

On the second day of the International Conference on Innovations in Advanced Drug Research (ICIADR-2024), Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU) established itself as a global hub of pharmaceutical innovation. The event brought together outstanding minds from academia, industry, and government to discuss revolutionary advances in drug discovery and development, with a special emphasis on tackling healthcare concerns in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The conference highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary innovation in revolutionizing global healthcare systems through exciting sessions and ground-breaking collaborations.

The day began with a spectacular opening ceremony, during which Prof. Harvinder Popli, co-convener and director of DIIF, welcomed attendees. Prof. P.K. Sahoo, Registrar of DPSRU, highlighted the university's dedication to pharmaceutical innovation and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to tackle healthcare disparities, particularly in resource-constrained LMIC settings.

Dr. Raj K. Shirumalla, Mission Director of the National Biopharma Mission, emphasised the significance of national actions in advancing biopharmaceutical research. Dr. C.N. Ramchand, CEO of MagGenome Technologies, emphasized the importance of harnessing innovation to solve healthcare inequities in low- and middle-income countries. Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, India's Drugs Controller General, spoke about regulatory frameworks and their ability to balance accessibility and safety, which is a pressing challenge in developing economies.

The technical seminars illustrated how to adapt cutting-edge research to the unique healthcare requirements of low- and middle-income nations.

Dr. Meenakshi Singh's talk on computer-aided drug design demonstrated the promise of computational methods to accelerate drug development, which is especially useful in low- and middle-income countries with inadequate research facilities. Dr. Rajesh Amin's focus on Alzheimer's treatment highlighted the global burden of neurological illnesses and emphasized the need for early intervention.

Dr. Elizabeth Lipke presented one of the most striking speeches, exploring synthetic tissues for regenerative medicine and giving solutions to organ transplantation concerns. Such technologies have the potential to transform healthcare in low- and middle-income countries, where access to modern therapies is still limited.

Dr. Robert Arnold's presentation on multi-omics techniques for overcoming drug resistance in prostate cancer sparked a debate about the adoption of precision medicine in LMIC settings. Integrating such ideas into existing public health frameworks could lead to considerable improvements in results.

The afternoon presentations highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in drug research. Dr. Jayachandra Babu Ramapuram's study of 3D printing technology for medical implants revealed cost-effective options that could lessen LMICs' reliance on pricey imports.

Dr. Timothy Moore discussed Auburn University's joint efforts in drug discovery. His presentation emphasized the necessity of collaboration between global institutions and low- and middle-income countries and argued for knowledge-sharing methods to close research gaps.

The Valedictory Function commemorated the event's success with awards for excellence in new research. The Best Poster Award recognized contributions that addressed significant healthcare concerns, particularly those relevant to low- and middle-income countries.

The second day of ICIADR-2024 emphasized the need for flexible, scalable, and long-term solutions to address LMIC-specific constraints such as inadequate infrastructure, affordability, and labour shortages. Regulatory reforms, capacity-building initiatives, and international collaborations have emerged as key issues for expanding healthcare access.

As Dr. Ravichandiran V., Vice-Chancellor of DPSRU, rightly noted, "The path forward lies in bridging interdisciplinary gaps and fostering innovation for a more equitable global healthcare system."

The insights and innovations presented during ICIADR-2024 underlined DPSRU's role in promoting pharmaceutical science. The conference, which focused on addressing healthcare inequities in low- and middle-income countries, provided a solid platform for future collaborations and research.
