AIIMS and Wipro GE Healthcare Join Forces to Revolutionize Healthcare with AI Health Innovations Hub
In a groundbreaking move towards transforming healthcare in India, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wipro GE Healthcare Pvt Ltd, a global leader in healthcare technology. This collaboration marks the establishment of the AI Health Innovations Hub, a strategic initiative aimed at advancing precision health solutions to improve diagnosis, treatment, and patient care both in India and around the world.
Through this partnership, Wipro GE Healthcare, as the technology partner, will invest $1 million over the next five years to develop and deploy cutting-edge AI-driven systems and workflow solutions. These solutions will specifically target key clinical areas such as cardiology, oncology, and neurology. The focus will be on enhancing clinical pathways through intelligent technologies that enable better patient outcomes and more precise treatments.
AIIMS, as the clinical partner, will play a pivotal role in providing multi-modal clinical inputs, serving as a real-world clinical environment for the evaluation, feedback, and deployment of GE HealthCare’s AI-enabled solutions. The collaboration will also include clinical research and academic engagement, overseen by a joint working committee from both organizations.
This initiative aligns with the growing importance of AI in India's healthcare landscape. According to the National AI Portal of India (INDIAai), AI technology is poised to bring about a transformative leap for India's healthcare system, potentially contributing $25-30 billion to the country’s GDP by 2025. By connecting longitudinal data—such as medical records, lab results, and imaging—and enhancing it with AI analytics, this initiative aims to streamline diagnosis, improve patient care, and optimize healthcare operations nationwide.
Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration, noting that it aligns with India's national vision of a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) through advanced healthcare. He stated, “AIIMS has always been committed to advancing healthcare through clinical research and the application of innovative solutions. Our partnership with Wipro GE Healthcare complements our vision for precision care, and we are optimistic that this collaboration will accelerate the development and validation of advanced MedTech to offer more effective care for patients.”
Parminder Bhatia, Chief AI Officer at GE HealthCare, expressed excitement over the potential of AI to revolutionize healthcare delivery. He stated, "The Indian healthcare industry is growing rapidly, fueled by government policies, innovative solutions, and the integration of digital technologies. We believe AI is not just a tool, but a transformative force to democratize healthcare, improving predictability, prevention, and precision. Our collaboration with AIIMS represents a major step forward in this journey, and we are eager to work together to accelerate the development of cutting-edge healthcare solutions."
This partnership represents a major leap in healthcare innovation, setting the stage for a future where AI can unlock new possibilities in patient care and clinical research, both in India and globally.
