MedTekon 2025: Paving the Future of India's MedTech Revolution

MedTekon 2025, the flagship event of the Medical Technology Association of India (MTaI), convened policymakers, global dignitaries, investors, and healthcare leaders at Taj Palace, setting the stage for policy acceleration, investment growth, and technological advancements in India’s MedTech sector.

Inaugurating the event,  Minister Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers, alongside Guest of Honour Dr. V. K. Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, emphasized the transformative role of medical technology in shaping India’s healthcare future. Minister Patel highlighted that the industry is poised to double its market size to $30 billion by 2030 and expand its global share from 1.65% to 10-12%, positioning India as a formidable MedTech powerhouse. She also noted that India’s exports had reached $3.8 billion last year, showcasing the sector’s growing manufacturing strength and global competitiveness. Stressing the importance of collaboration, she urged stakeholders to drive innovation, investment, and policy reforms to ensure India’s leadership in affordable, high-quality medical technology.

During a session on catalyzing foreign and domestic investments, Dr. V. K. Paul underscored the urgency of strengthening India’s global footprint, fostering innovation, and reinforcing domestic manufacturing. He pointed out that India’s 4,000+ health-tech startups require greater investment, regulatory support, and structured incubation to achieve global scalability. Additionally, he advocated for harmonizing regulatory standards with international benchmarks to enhance investor confidence and sectoral growth.

MTaI Chairman Mr. Pavan Choudary echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for investment-friendly policies, regulatory coherence, and a robust MedTech infrastructure to meet India’s growing healthcare demands. He highlighted that sharp advocacy stems from thoughtful deliberation, and MedTekon 2025 embodies this commitment. Addressing concerns about technology’s impact on human interaction, he argued that communities such as Hikikomori in Japan—where individuals prefer technology-driven interactions—illustrate how technology can provide solace in a world of judgment and stress.

The event featured a distinguished lineup of Indian and global MedTech leaders, including regulatory heads, industry stalwarts, and medical experts. Notable speakers included Mr. Aseem Sahu, Deputy Drugs Controller, CDSCO; Mr. Ajit Chavan, Additional CEO, GeM; Ms. Ritu Sain, Investment Commissioner, Government of Chhattisgarh; Mr. Hitendra Sahu, Director, Department of Pharmaceuticals; and Mr. Chinmai Dwivedi, MHD Head BIS. Esteemed medical professionals such as Padmashree Dr. Kameshwar Prasad (AIIMS & Fortis Healthcare), Dr. O.P. Yadava (CEO, National Heart Institute), and Dr. Pavan Gurha (Head of Anaesthesiology, Batra Hospital) contributed to the discussions. The event also saw participation from key international dignitaries, including Dr. Stephan Hesselmann, Minister Counsellor at the German Embassy; Estelle David, Trade & Investment Commissioner at the French Embassy; Nico Schiettekatte, Counsellor for Health & Welfare at the Embassy of the Netherlands; and Anna Shotbolt, Deputy Trade Commissioner for South Asia at the British High Commission.

MedTekon 2025 placed significant emphasis on investment-driven growth, positioning India as a global MedTech manufacturing and R&D hub. Experts explored the transformative impact of AI, robotics, and digital health solutions on hospital technology integration, aiming to enhance patient outcomes. Other key discussions revolved around designing reimbursement policies to address emerging healthcare needs, regulatory harmonization to ease business operations, and ethical marketing strategies. The event also underscored the importance of skill development programs in building a future-ready workforce equipped to harness next-generation medical innovations.

Reaffirming India’s standing as a pivotal player in global healthcare innovation, MedTekon 2025 charted a decisive path for the future of the MedTech industry. With its strong focus on investment, regulatory advancements, and cutting-edge technology, the event set the blueprint for India’s evolution into a MedTech powerhouse.
