Healthcare Experts Hail Government’s Plan for Cancer Care, Medical Education, and Affordable Medicines

Mr. D.S. Negi, CEO of Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre (RGCIRC), has welcomed the government's initiative to establish daycare cancer centers in all district hospitals over the next three years and the addition of 75,000 medical seats in the next five years.

“The addition of 200 cancer daycare centers in 2025-26 across district hospitals will make treatment more affordable and accessible, particularly for patients from rural areas,” said Mr. Negi.

He also lauded the government’s plan to introduce 10,000 more medical college seats in FY26, calling it a crucial step toward strengthening healthcare accessibility and capacity.

Another key reform highlighted by Mr. Negi is the inclusion of 36 life-saving drugs in the list of medicines fully exempted from basic customs duty, along with six more medicines under concessional duty. This move, he noted, would significantly reduce treatment costs for patients.

Additionally, the provision of broadband connectivity for primary healthcare centers is expected to enhance access to healthcare services, particularly in remote and underserved areas.

These measures collectively mark a major advancement in India's healthcare infrastructure, promising improved cancer care, medical training, and affordability of life-saving treatments.
