World Environment Day: Safdarjung Hospital Plants Seeds of Sustainability Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign
Doctors, staff pledge to nurture a greener future as VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital joins nationwide environmental initiative
Marking World Environment Day with a strong message of environmental responsibility, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital organized a tree plantation drive under the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and a greener future.
The plantation programme was held outside the Super Specialty Block (SSB), where hospital officials, doctors, and staff came together to plant saplings and promote environmental conservation. The initiative was not only a symbolic tribute to mothers but also a call to action for preserving nature for future generations.
Leading the drive, Dr. Kavita Sharma, Director of VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital, planted a tree and urged staff members to actively participate in creating a healthier environment. She emphasized that every sapling planted today represents an investment in a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable tomorrow.
Joining the initiative, Dr. Charu Bamba, Medical Superintendent, highlighted the collective responsibility of protecting the environment. She encouraged hospital employees and visitors to embrace eco-friendly habits, conserve natural resources, and contribute to maintaining a clean and green healthcare campus.
Mr. Neeraj Sachdeva, Joint Director, also participated in the plantation drive and appreciated the institution’s ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental awareness and enhance the green cover across the hospital premises.
The event, coordinated by Dr. R.P. Arora, Senior Chief Medical Officer, witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of staff members, reflecting the institution’s shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arora shared practical measures being undertaken by the hospital to improve its ecological footprint. He informed that large planters containing Snake Plants, often referred to as oxygen plants, are being installed in and around the Super Specialty Block to help create a healthier and greener environment within the campus.
He also encouraged people to extend environmental responsibility beyond institutional boundaries by planting trees in their homes and neighbourhoods, avoiding littering, conserving water and electricity, and adopting the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle in everyday life.
The World Environment Day celebration underscored Safdarjung Hospital’s broader commitment to sustainability through green initiatives, awareness campaigns, and regular plantation drives aimed at creating a cleaner, healthier, and more environmentally conscious healthcare environment.
The programme concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to protect and nurture the newly planted trees and continue supporting the spirit of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, turning a simple act of planting a sapling into a lasting promise for the planet.
