Dr Wankhedkar elected World Medical Association treasurer

Prof. Ravi Wankhedkar, former President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), has been elected as the Treasurer of the World Medical Association (WMA). Dr Wankhedkar was elected unanimously by the body of 113 nations in the Council of the WMA held recently in Santiago, Chile.
Prof. Wankhedkar is an anorectal surgeon practicing in his own hospital along with his wife Dr Meena Wankhedkar in Dhule, Maharashtra. He is known in India for his tough stand against the NMC Bill and proactive health policies.
Calling Prof Wankhedkar’s success as the success of Indian Medical Association and its increasing role in WMA, Dr Santanu Sen, President, IMA, and Dr RV Asokan, Honorary Secretary General, IMA, said that IMA has been a founder member of WMA since 1947.
"IMA recently conducted an international conference on violence on doctors and hospitals in Mumbai in association with WMA. A joint statement was released. IMA plays an active role in formulating the policies of WMA," states an IMA press release.
