Amlodipine with Atorvastatin
-Amlodipine belongs to a group of medications known as calcium channel blockers, and atorvastatin belongs to HMG-CoA ( Hydroxymethylglutaryl -CoA) reductase inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure ( Hypertension) and chest pain ( angina). -Amlodipine with Atorvastatin is a combination medication that contains two active ingredients, amlodipine and atorvastatin. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels, while atorvastatin is a statin that reduces the levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood.-This combination is prescribed for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and dyslipidemia (abnormal levels of cholesterol and triglycerides) in patients who require both medications. -Angina, hypertension, stroke, cardiac arrest, and other cardiac problems.
Dosage may vary based on individual patient factors. Typically, a common starting dose might be amlodipine 5 mg/atorvastatin 10 mg once daily, with subsequent adjustments as needed. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and any recommendations provided by the healthcare provider.
-This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to amlodipine, atorvastatin, or any of the components of the formulation. It is also contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and in patients with active liver disease. -Kidney impairment, hypersensitivity, liver diseases.
-Caution is advised in patients with liver impairment or a history of liver disease. -Monitoring liver function tests may be necessary during therapy. -Grapefruit juice should be avoided as it can interact with atorvastatin metabolism. -Patients should be monitored for symptoms of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis (muscle-related disorders). -Amlodipine with atorvastatin is not recommended in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
-Common side effects may include edema, headache, dizziness, flushing, and myalgia. Serious side effects such as liver problems, muscle problems, and allergic reactions are possible but rare. Any unusual or severe side effects should be reported to a healthcare professional. -Chest discomfort, abdominal discomfort, allergic reactions, palpitations, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, joint pain, and fatigue.
Amlodipine with Atorvastatin may interact with other medications, including but not limited to: -Medications metabolized by the CYP3A4 enzyme system. -Other antihypertensive medications. -Medications that increase the risk of myopathy when combined with statins. -It is crucial to inform the healthcare provider about all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, being taken. -Antibiotics, antiviral drugs, immunosuppressant drugs, and contraceptive medicines.
