Nitrendipine
It is a long acting second generation Calcium Channel Blocker. It acts by inhibiting the movement of Calcium through the slow channels of cardiac and vascular smooth muscles thus inducing peripheral vasodilation with consequent reduction in elevated Blood Pressure. Nitrendipine inhibits contractions of vascular smooth muscles induced by various stimuli, and does not alter conduction through sinus or arterioventricular node.Mild to moderate hypertension
5-20 mg once daily in morning. Max. 40 mg/day in 1-2 doses

Pregnancy, lactation. Paediatrics: Not recommended. Pregnancy: Caution should be taken. Lactation: Contraindicated. Elderly: Reduced dose may be necessary. Have more side effects.
Headache,flushing,oedema,palpita-tions.
Synergistic effect on angina with beta blockers. Reduced plasma levels of quinidine. Theophylline & phenytoin raise plasma levels. Cimetidine increases bio-availability & may potentiate hypotension.
