TINZAPARIN

Tinzaparin is an anticoagulant medication used to prevent and treat blood clots. It is a low molecular weight heparin that works by inhibiting blood clot formation.

Indications

-Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in patients undergoing surgery or at high risk of clot formation. -Treatment of DVT and PE in conjunction with other anticoagulants. -Prevention of clot formation in patients with acute coronary syndrome.


Dosage

-For prevention of DVT: 4,500 IU subcutaneously once daily. -For treatment of DVT/PE: 175 IU/kg subcutaneously every 12 hours. -For acute coronary syndrome: 350 IU/kg subcutaneously once, followed by 250 IU/kg every 12 hours.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Tinzaparin or other heparins. -Active bleeding disorders or conditions with increased bleeding risk. -Severe renal impairment. -History of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).


Special Precautions

-Monitor platelet counts regularly. -Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment. -Avoid use in patients with active bleeding or severe hypertension. -Ensure proper technique to avoid injecting into a muscle or vein.


Side Effects

bleeding, thrombocytopenia, elevated AST, pain, hematoma


Drug Interactions

-Increased bleeding risk with other anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, aspirin). -Caution with drugs that affect platelet function (e.g., clopidogrel). -Adjust dosage or monitor more frequently if used with other drugs affecting blood clotting.
