Adrenaline

Adrenaline (adrenalin or epinephrine), is a hormone, neurotransmitter, and medication. epinephrine is normally produced by both the adrenal glands and certain neurons. it plays an important role in the fight-or-flight response by increasing blood flow to muscles, output of the heart, pupil dilation, and blood sugar.

Indications

Adrenaline is used for emergency treatment of allergic reaction (type I) including anaphylaxis to stinging insects and other allergens, as well as idiopathic anaphylaxis or exercise-induced anaphylaxis. it is also used for immediate administration as emergency supportive therapy only.


Dosage

IM, subcutaneous; 0.15mg to 0.3mg under supervision, may be administer by infusion under control condition.


Special Precautions

It is should be used with caution in hypertensive, heart disease, arrhythmia, coronary heart disease. Paediatric: Use with caution. Pregnancy: Category C Laction: Data not sufficient. Elderly: Data not sufficient.


Side Effects

Anxiety;apprehensiveness; restlessness;tremor;weakness;dizziness;sweating; palpitations;pallor;nausea and vomiting;headache, and respiratory difficulties.


Drug Interactions

Drug Interaction: Cardiac glycosides, TCA, antiarrhythmic drugs, Diuretics, MOAS, ergot derivatives, diuretics.
