Amino Acid
Non-essential amino acids are synthesized in the body but essential amino acids being not synthesized, must be supplied exogenously. It has been an accepted rule in nutrition that essential and non-essential amino acids must be present in optimum ratio for amino acids to be utilized for synthesis of tissueproteins. There are oral and parenteral amino acid preparations. Intravenous amino acid preparations are indicated in.Pre & post operative conditions in which it is difficult or impossible to give food/nutrition orally or by gastric tube. Malabsorption and impaired digestion and assimilation in various gastric disorders such malignant diseases, ulcerative colitis, regional enteritis, necrotizing enterocolitis etc. Severe protein deficiency and high metabolic demand of protein due to extensive burns, severe trauma, fracture of long bones.
Risk of cardiac decompensation due to fluid overload, irreversible liver damage
Rapid injection may cause nausea & vomiting. Amino acids not enough utilized in the body are excreted out in the intact form in the urine.
