APALUTAMIDE

Apalutamide is a medication used in the treatment of prostate cancer. It belongs to a class of drugs known as antiandrogens, specifically classified as nonsteroidal antiandrogens. This medication works by blocking the effects of androgens (male hormones) in the body, which can slow the growth and spread of prostate cancer cells.

Indications

-Apalutamide is indicated for the treatment of non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (NM-CRPC), which is prostate cancer that continues to grow despite hormone therapy but has not yet spread to other parts of the body. -APALUTAMIDE is an androgen receptor inhibitor indicated for the treatment of patients with nonmetastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.


Dosage

The dosage of apalutamide may vary depending on factors such as the patient's medical condition and response to treatment. It is typically taken orally once daily, with or without food. Patients should follow their healthcare provider's instructions carefully regarding dosage and administration. Oral; 240 mg (four 60 mg tablets) administered orally once daily. Patients should also receive a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analog concurrently or should have had bilateral orchiectomy.


Contra-Indications

Apalutamide is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the medication or any of its components. -Hypersensitivity.


Special Precautions

Males Based on animal studies, Apalutamide may impair fertility in males of reproductive potential. Before taking apalutamide, patients should inform their healthcare provider about any other medications they are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements. It's essential to discuss any medical conditions or allergies, as well as any history of liver problems, before starting treatment with apalutamide.


Side Effects

-Common side effects of apalutamide may include fatigue, nausea, decreased appetite, diarrhea, and rash. Patients should report any severe or persistent side effects to their healthcare provider promptly. -Fatigue, hypertension, rash, diarrhea, nausea, weight decreased, arthralgia, fall, hot flush, decreased appetite, fracture, and peripheral edema.


Drug Interactions

-Apalutamide may interact with other medications, including certain anticoagulants (blood thinners) and medications metabolized by the CYP3A4 enzyme. Patients should inform their healthcare provider about all medications they are taking to avoid potential drug interactions. -Concomitant use with medications that are sensitive substrates of CYP3A4, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, UGT, P-gp, BCRP, or OATP1B1 may result in loss of activity of these medications
