ASHWAGANDHA / WITHANIA ROOT/ INDIAN GINSENG

It is the root and stem of a plant known as Withania somnifera. Major chemical constituents of ashwagandha are somniferine, withanianine, and anaferine. It exhibits different Pharmacological properties such as sedative, hypnotic, antistress, analgesic, anti-arthritic, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, anti-tumor, neuroprotective and antidiabetic.

Indications

Insomnia, anxiety, diabetes, infertility, rheumatoid arthritis, and urinary tract infection.


Dosage

Average dose for ashwagandha capsules is 1-6 grams daily.


Contra-Indications

It is contraindicated in patients with, liver impairment, Pregnancy and breastfeeding


Special Precautions

Overdose of Ashwagandha can lead to chronic toxicity.


Side Effects

Diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort,


Drug Interactions

CNS depressant drugs, Benzodiazepines, antidiabetic, antihypertensive and Thyroid hormone.
