Bendroflumethiazide
Bendroflumethiazide is a thiazide diuretic commonly used to treat hypertension and edema. It works by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule, resulting in increased excretion of sodium and water.-Hypertension (high blood pressure) -Edema associated with heart failure, renal, or liver disorders
-Hypertension: 2.5 mg once daily, usually in the morning. -Edema: 5–10 mg once daily or every other day, adjusted as needed based on patient response.
-Hypersensitivity to bendroflumethiazide or other thiazides -Severe renal impairment -Addison's disease -Hypercalcemia or hypokalemia -Anuria (absence of urine production)
-Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, as it may increase blood glucose levels. -Monitor electrolyte levels regularly to prevent imbalances such as hypokalemia. -Caution in patients with gout due to the potential increase in uric acid levels. -Avoid excessive sunlight exposure; may cause photosensitivity.
-Electrolyte imbalances (e.g., hypokalemia, hyponatremia) -Dizziness or lightheadedness -Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea -Increased blood glucose or uric acid levels -Photosensitivity reactions -Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, pruritus)
-ACE inhibitors or ARBs: Risk of hyperkalemia. -NSAIDs: Reduced diuretic and antihypertensive effects. -Corticosteroids: Increased risk of hypokalemia. -Antidiabetic drugs: Reduced efficacy of antidiabetic medications. -Digoxin: Increased risk of toxicity due to hypokalemia.
