Blonanserin

Blonanserin is an antipsychotic medication used primarily in the treatment of schizophrenia. It works by modulating the effects of neurotransmitters in the brain to help manage symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking.

Indications

-Schizophrenia -Schizoaffective disorders

Dosage

-Adults: Typically 8 mg to 16 mg per day, divided into 1-2 doses. -Elderly: Dosage may be adjusted based on individual tolerance and response.

Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Blonanserin or any of its components. -Severe liver impairment.

Special Precautions

-Monitor for signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). -Caution in patients with a history of seizures. -Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular conditions. -Adjust dose in cases of renal or hepatic impairment.

Side Effects

Parkinson syndrome, akathisia, insomnia , increased blood prolactin levels, dyskinesia, somnolence, anxiety/irritability.

Drug Interactions

CYP3A4 inhibitors, levodopa.
