Bromhexine, Terbutaline, Guaiphenesin

Bromhexine, Terbutaline, and Guaiphenesin are combined in a single formulation used for the relief of cough and respiratory conditions associated with bronchospasm and mucus production. -Bromhexine is a mucolytic agent that thins and loosens mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up. -Terbutaline is a bronchodilator that helps to relieve bronchospasm in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). -Guaiphenesin is an expectorant that helps to loosen and clear mucus from the airways.

Indications

-Cough associated with bronchospasm -Acute and chronic bronchitis -Asthma -Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) -Other respiratory conditions involving excessive mucus production


Dosage

-Adults and children over 12 years: Typically, one to two teaspoons (5-10 ml) taken orally three times daily. -Children 6 to 12 years: One teaspoon (5 ml) taken orally three times daily. -Children 2 to 6 years: Half a teaspoon (2.5 ml) taken orally three times daily. Dosage may vary based on the specific product formulation and patient's condition. Always follow the prescribing physician's recommendations or the product label.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Bromhexine, Terbutaline, Guaiphenesin, or any other component of the formulation. -Severe hypertension -Severe coronary artery disease -Hyperthyroidism -Patients with a history of peptic ulcer (due to potential gastric irritation by Guaiphenesin)


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, and seizure disorders. -Monitor for signs of hypersensitivity reactions. -Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. -Caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.


Side Effects

-Nausea -Vomiting -Diarrhea -Headache -Dizziness -Tremors -Palpitations -Hypokalemia -Allergic reactions (rash, itching, difficulty breathing)


Drug Interactions

-Beta-blockers may antagonize the effects of Terbutaline. -Diuretics and other drugs causing hypokalemia can enhance the risk of Terbutaline-induced hypokalemia. -Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or tricyclic antidepressants may potentiate cardiovascular effects. -Other cough suppressants may reduce the efficacy of Guaiphenesin.
