Calcitonin Salmon

Salmon cacitonin is a synhetic polypeptide of 32 amino acids in the same linear sequence that is found in calcitonin of salmon origin and appears to have actions essentially identical to calcitonins of mammalian origin, but with a greater potency permg and a longer duration of action.

Indications

Treatment of post-menopausal osteoporosis, bone-loss from prolonged immobilization, advancing osteolytic hypercalcemia of malignancy, pain associated with metastatic bone cancer, treatment of Paget's disease.


Dosage

50 iu-400 iu in single or divided doses.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity to synthetic salmon calcitonin.


Special Precautions

Pregnancy and lactation, childrens.


Side Effects

Gastrointestinal disorders, allergy, palpitation, tachycardia, hypotension, headache, dizziness, paresthesia, tremor, numbness or tingling of hands and extremities, tinnitus, vertigo and fever, upper body flushing, pruritus, rash and urticaria.


Drug Interactions

Cardiac glycosides, digitalis, mithramycin or biphosphate resorption inhibitors.
