Cefdinir

It is belongs to therapeutic class of 3rd generation cephalosporins

Indications

Community acquired pneumonia, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsilitis, LRTI, Acute Maxillary sinusitis, switch therapy, Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections.


Dosage

300mg every 12 hrs (b.I.d.).


Contra-Indications

Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to cephalosporin class of Antibiotics.


Special Precautions

Caution to be taken with patients hypersensitive to cephalosporins. It is not to be used during labour & delivery, paediatric use is not established.


Side Effects

Diarrhea, vaginal moniliasis, nausea, headache, abdominal pain, vaginitis, rash, flatulence, dyspepsia, vomiting, anorexia, constipation, dizzness, insomnia, pruritus, somnolence etc.


Drug Interactions

Its rate and extent of absorption is reduced in presence of antacid. Probenecid inhibits renal excertion of cefdinir concomitant administration of cefdinir with therapeutic iron supplement reduces extent of absorption.
