Cefoperazone and Sulbactam
Cefoperazone and Sulbactam is a combination antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Cefoperazone is a cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, while Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps prevent the breakdown of Cefoperazone by bacterial enzymes.-Respiratory tract infections -Urinary tract infections -Abdominal infections -Skin and soft tissue infections -Bone and joint infections -Gynecological infections
-Adults: Typically, the dosage is 1-2 grams of Cefoperazone and 0.5-1 gram of Sulbactam administered intravenously or intramuscularly every 12 hours. The exact dose and duration depend on the severity of the infection and the patient's condition. -Children: Dosage should be determined by a physician based on body weight and the type of infection.
-Known hypersensitivity to Cefoperazone, Sulbactam, or other cephalosporins. -History of severe allergic reactions to ?-lactam antibiotics. -Patients with severe liver dysfunction.
-Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis. Monitor liver and kidney function regularly during treatment. -Adjust dosage in patients with renal impairment. -Caution in pregnant or breastfeeding women; use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare professional.
-Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, pain at the injection site. -Severe: Allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), liver enzyme abnormalities, jaundice, severe gastrointestinal disturbances.
-May interact with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) and increase bleeding risk. -Caution when used with other nephrotoxic drugs (e.g., aminoglycosides). -Probenecid may increase Cefoperazone levels by decreasing renal excretion.
