Cefpirome
It is a fourth generation cephalosporin. It is bactericidal and it acts by binding at plasma binding proteins and disrupting the bacterial cell wall.It is used in treatment of resistant enterococcal and streptococcal infections
Adults: 1-2 g twice daily depending on the severity of infection. Dose to be modified in cases of impaired renal function.
Hypersensitivity.
Cross sensitivity to penicillin. Monitor renal functions in case of concomitant administration of loop diuretics or aminoglycosides. Pregnancy: Contraindicated. Lactation: Contraindicated. Elderly: Use with caution
Nausea, vomitting, diarrhoea, pseudomembranous colitis. Increase in liver enzymes. Eosinophilia. Thrombocytopenia. Taste disturbance after injection.
Aminoglycosides: Monitor renal functions.
