CELECOXIB
Celecoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that belongs to the class of selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors. It is used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with various conditions.-Osteoarthritis -Rheumatoid arthritis -Ankylosing spondylitis -Acute pain -Primary dysmenorrhea
The recommended dose varies based on the indication: -Osteoarthritis: 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily. -Rheumatoid arthritis: 100 mg to 200 mg twice daily. -Acute pain: 400 mg initially, followed by 200 mg if needed on the first day; then, 200 mg twice daily as needed. -Ankylosing spondylitis: 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily. -Primary dysmenorrhea: 400 mg initially, followed by 200 mg if needed on the first day; then, 200 mg twice daily as needed.
Celecoxib is contraindicated in individuals with: -Hypersensitivity to celecoxib or sulfonamides. -History of allergic reactions (e.g., asthma, urticaria) to aspirin or other NSAIDs. -Active gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer disease, or a history of gastrointestinal perforation.
Use with caution in patients with: -Cardiovascular disease -Hypertension -Renal impairment -Liver dysfunction -History of gastrointestinal disease -Elderly patients
Common side effects may include: -Dyspepsia -Abdominal pain -Diarrhea -Headache -Peripheral edema -Serious side effects can include cardiovascular events, gastrointestinal bleeding, and renal impairment.
-Avoid concomitant use with other NSAIDs, including aspirin, as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. -Use caution with anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) due to an increased risk of bleeding. -Monitor blood pressure when co-administered with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). -May reduce the efficacy of diuretics.
