Centbucridine
Centbucridine is a synthetic opioid analgesic with potent pain-relieving properties. It acts centrally to alleviate pain by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord.Centbucridine is indicated for the short-term management of moderate to severe pain, such as post-operative pain, trauma, or cancer-related pain.
The dosage of Centbucridine should be individualized based on the patient's age, weight, and pain severity. It's typically administered via intravenous or intramuscular injection.
Centbucridine is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to opioids, severe respiratory depression, paralytic ileus, and in those who are not opioid-tolerant. It should also be avoided in patients with acute asthma attacks.
Caution should be exercised when using Centbucridine in elderly patients, patients with respiratory disorders, impaired hepatic or renal function, and those with a history of substance abuse. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
Common side effects of Centbucridine include respiratory depression, sedation, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, and confusion. Serious side effects such as respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest may occur, especially with high doses or in susceptible individuals.
Centbucridine may interact with other central nervous system depressants, such as benzodiazepines, alcohol, and other opioids, leading to additive sedative effects and respiratory depression. It may also interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome.
