Cephalexin
It is bactericidal which is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.Respiratory tract infections, E.N.T. Urinary tract, Gynaecological and obstetric infections. Gonorrhoea (When Penicillin is unsuitable). Skin Soft tissue bone and dental infections.
Adults: 1-4 gm daily in equally divided doses 6 hrly. Children: 5-15 yrs:- 25-50 mg/kg body wt. daily in divided doses.
Hypersensitivity to cephalo-sporins.
It is well tolerated by patients allergic to penicillin, but cross-reaction has been encountered rarely. Paediatrics: Safe. Pregnancy: Use with caution during early months. Lactation:The drug passes into breast milk. elderly: renal impairment may occur.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, Reversible neutropenia. Drug rashes.
Concurrent treatment with aminoglycosides or potent diuretics (Frusemide ethacrynic acid and piretanide) may adversely affect renal function.
