Clemastine Fumarate

Antiallergic and antipruritic agent.

Indications

Hay fever and other allergic rhinopathies; urticaria, pruritus, itching dermatoses as adjuvant in acute and chronic eczema, contact dermatitis, drug eruptions, insect stings and bites.


Dosage

Adults and children over 12 years: 1 mg. morning nd evening; in refractory cases: upto 6 mg per day. Children: 1 to 3 years: 0.25-0.5 mg., 3 to 6 year: 0.5 mg. 6 to 12 years: 0.5 mg.-1mg. before breakfast and at bedtime.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity, children under 1 year of age, narrow-angle glaucoma pyloroduodenal obstruction, stenosing peptic ulcer, prostatic hypertrophy with urinary retention or bladder neck obstruction,pregnancy & lactation,


Special Precautions

Glaucoma, tasks requiring mental alertness, sedatives, tranquilizers, chronic hepatic/renal dysfunction. Paediatrics: Not recommended under 1 year. Pregnancy: Use with caution. Lactation: Should not be used. Elderly: Reduced dose should be given.


Side Effects

Fatigue, sedation, occasionally CNS stimulation, particularly in children; dry mouth, headache, dizziness, skin rash, nausea, gastralgia, constipation


Drug Interactions

Sedatives, hypnotics, MAO inhibitors, alcohol.
