Cloxacillin

Cloxacillin

It is semi-synthetic penicillin, food interferes with its absorption from gut.

Indications

Gram-positive infections including resistant staphylococci.


Dosage

1 to 4 gm daily in divided doses


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity reaction to Penicillin, Asthma, hay fever


Special Precautions

Renal and hepatic impairment. Paediatrics: Safe. Pregnancy: Safe. Lactation: Safe. Elderly: Increased risk of adverse effects.


Side Effects

Urticaria, skin rashes, G.I. upsets


Drug Interactions

Chloramphenicol and tetracycline antagonise bactericidal effect of pencillins. Sulphonamides and acetyl salicylic acid inhibit serum protein binding of cloxacillin therapy
