Desloratadine
It is a new, selective peripheral histamine H1-receptor antagonist with more potent antiallergenic properties than loratadine itself. It also exhibits anti-inflammatory activity which is mediated by inhibiting the release of proinflammatory mediators from human mast cells/basophils.Desloratadine is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial) and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
The recommended dosage of desloratadine for adults and children 12 years and older is 5 mg once daily, with or without food.
Hypersensitivity, pregnant and lactating females.
Renal impairment, alcoholic beverages, ability to drive or use machinery, caution is warranted.
Common side effects may include headache, fatigue, dry mouth, and gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and abdominal pain.
Desloratadine may interact with ketoconazole, erythromycin, and other drugs that inhibit the hepatic enzyme CYP3A4, potentially leading to increased desloratadine levels.
