DIFLUPREDNATE

Difluprednate is a potent anti-inflammatory corticosteroid used primarily in the treatment of eye conditions such as inflammation, allergic conjunctivitis, and post-operative inflammation. It helps reduce inflammation and swelling in the eyes.

Indications

-Inflammation of the anterior segment of the eye -Allergic conjunctivitis -Post-operative inflammation and pain after eye surgery


Dosage

-Adults and Children (over 2 years): Apply 1 drop into the affected eye(s) 2 to 4 times daily. -Post-operative use: 1 drop every 4 to 6 hours for the first week, then reduce frequency based on response and clinical judgement.


Contra-Indications

-Known hypersensitivity to difluprednate or any other component of the formulation -Active viral, bacterial, or fungal eye infections -Tuberculosis of the eye -Open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure. -Monitor for signs of infection, as corticosteroids can mask infections. -Prolonged use may increase the risk of cataracts or glaucoma.


Side Effects

-Common: Burning or stinging sensation in the eyes, blurred vision. -Less Common: Increased intraocular pressure, cataract formation, eye infections, or allergic reactions.


Drug Interactions

Limited interactions with systemic medications due to minimal systemic absorption. However, concurrent use with other ocular corticosteroids may enhance side effects.
