Dihydro Codeinone HCl is a semi-synthetic opioid used for its analgesic (pain-relieving) effects. It is often prescribed to manage moderate to severe pain.

Indications

-Management of moderate to severe pain -Sometimes used for cough suppression


Dosage

-The dosage is individualized based on the patient's condition and response to therapy. -Generally, the initial dose ranges from 10 to 30 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. -Maximum daily dose should not exceed 240 mg.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to dihydrocodeinone or other opioid analgesics. -Severe respiratory depression. -Acute or severe bronchial asthma. -Known or suspected gastrointestinal obstruction. -Significant hepatic or renal impairment.


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of substance abuse. -Monitor for signs of respiratory depression. -Caution in patients with head injuries, increased intracranial pressure, or severe CNS depression. -Adjust dosage for elderly or debilitated patients.


Side Effects

-Common: Drowsiness, constipation, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth. -Serious: Respiratory depression, hypotension, urinary retention, allergic reactions.


Drug Interactions

-Caution when used with other CNS depressants, including alcohol, benzodiazepines, and other opioids. -May interact with medications affecting liver enzymes (e.g., CYP3A4 inhibitors). -Potential for interaction with MAO inhibitors.
