ERYTHROMYCIN TOPICAL

It is an antibiotic preparation formulated for the topical treatment of acne.

Indications

For topical control of acne vulgaris.


Dosage

Apply to the affected area twice daily.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity to erythromycin. Pregnancy, lactation.


Special Precautions

Keep away from the eyes, nose, mouth and other mucous membranes. Concomitant topical cne therapy should be used with caution because a cumulative irritancy effect may occur. Paediatrics: Safe. Pregnancy & Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: Safe.


Side Effects

Dryness, erythema, pruritus, desquamation and rarely burning.


Drug Interactions

May potentiate the action of carbamazepine, cyclosporin, theophylline and warfarin. Reduces therapeutic effect of penicillins. Antibacterial activity potentiated by acetazolamide and sodium bicarbonate.
