FEXOFENADINE HYDROCHLORIDE

Fexofenadine Hydrochloride is a second-generation antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic urticaria (hives). It works by blocking histamine H1 receptors to reduce allergic reactions.

Indications

-Allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial) -Chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives)


Dosage

-Adults and Children (12 years and older): 60 mg twice daily or 180 mg once daily. -Children (6 to 11 years): 30 mg twice daily. -Children under 6 years: Dosage should be determined by a physician.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any component of the formulation. -Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment.


Special Precautions

-Avoid alcohol and other central nervous system depressants as they may enhance drowsiness. -Monitor renal function in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions. -Not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women unless clearly needed.


Side Effects

-Common: Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue. -Less common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, allergic reactions.


Drug Interactions

-Avoid use with other antihistamines to prevent additive effects. -May interact with drugs that affect renal excretion such as erythromycin or ketoconazole. -Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants to prevent increased sedation.
