INACTIVATED INFLUENZA VACCINE (SPLIT VIRION)

The Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (Split Virion) is designed to protect against influenza viruses. It contains inactivated (killed) viruses that stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies against influenza.

Indications

-Prevention of influenza in individuals aged 6 months and older. -Recommended annually, especially for those at higher risk of complications from influenza.


Dosage

-Adults: 0.5 mL intramuscularly. -Children (6 months to 8 years): 0.5 mL intramuscularly. For children receiving the vaccine for the first time, two doses may be required.


Contra-Indications

-Severe allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine. -History of severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of influenza vaccine.


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in individuals with a history of Guillain-Barré Syndrome. -Not recommended for individuals who are acutely ill or have a fever.


Side Effects

-Common: Injection site pain, redness, swelling. -Less common: Fever, muscle aches, headache. -Rare: Severe allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis.


Drug Interactions

-May be administered with other vaccines. -Consult with a healthcare provider if taking immunosuppressive medications or undergoing immunotherapy.
