Insulin Aspart
Insulin Aspart is a rapid-acting insulin analog used to control blood sugar levels in individuals with diabetes mellitus. It mimics the natural insulin produced by the body but has a faster onset of action and shorter duration, making it particularly suitable for controlling postprandial glucose spikes.Insulin Aspart is indicated for the treatment of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control. It is typically used in combination with long-acting insulin or oral antidiabetic medications.
Dosage of Insulin Aspart varies depending on individual patient factors such as blood glucose levels, carbohydrate intake, and physical activity. It is typically administered subcutaneously shortly before meals to control postprandial glucose levels.
Insulin Aspart is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to insulin aspart or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used during episodes of hypoglycemia or in insulin pumps.
Special precautions should be taken when administering Insulin Aspart in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, as insulin requirements may be altered. Careful monitoring of blood glucose levels is necessary during periods of illness, stress, or changes in medication regimen.
Common side effects of Insulin Aspart include hypoglycemia, injection site reactions (such as redness, swelling, or itching), weight gain, and allergic reactions. Severe hypoglycemia can occur if the dosage is too high or if there are changes in diet, exercise, or medication regimen.
Insulin Aspart may interact with other medications that affect blood glucose levels, such as oral antidiabetic agents, beta-blockers, corticosteroids, and certain antibiotics. Dose adjustments may be necessary when using Insulin Aspart concomitantly with these medications.
