LANSOPRAZOLE

It reduces gastric acid secretion through a highly selective mechanism of action. It produces specific dose dependent inhibition of the enzyme' H+, K+-ATPase (the proton pump) in the parietal cell. As this action ihibits the final stage of gastric acid formation there is effective inhibition of both basal and stimulated acid secretion irrespective of the stimulus to acid formation.

Indications

Duodenal ulcer, Gastric ulcer, Reflux oesophagitis. Zollinger Ellison Syndrome.

Dosage

30mg once daily.

Contra-Indications

Pregnancy,Nursing Mothers, Children.

Special Precautions

When gastric ulcer is suspected,the possibility of malignancy should be excluded. Paediatrics: Not recommnded. Pregnancy: Not recommended. Lactation: Not recommended. Elderly: Dose increase of >30 mg/day only if indicated.

Side Effects

gastrointestinal,diarrhoea, skin disor ders, respiratory tract symptoms , Headache.

Drug Interactions

It partially inhibits the oxidative metabolism of drugs metabolised by the cytochrome p450 enzyme subfamily IIC, such as diazepam and phenytoin.
