Linctus Codeine

Linctus Codeine is a cough syrup that contains codeine, a narcotic cough suppressant. It is used to relieve persistent dry coughs.

Indications

-Persistent dry cough -Non-productive cough that causes discomfort


Dosage

-Adults: 10-20 mL every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 120 mL per day. -Children (6-12 years): 5-10 mL every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 60 mL per day. -Not recommended for children under 6 years.


Contra-Indications

-Known hypersensitivity to codeine or any component of the formulation -Severe respiratory disorders or lung diseases -Recent abdominal surgery -Children under 6 years old


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of drug abuse or addiction. -May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. -Monitor for signs of respiratory depression, especially in those with compromised respiratory function.

-Drowsiness -Nausea and vomiting -Constipation -Dizziness -Allergic reactions (rash, itching)


Drug Interactions

-May interact with other central nervous system depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines) -May reduce the effectiveness of certain medications, including certain antidepressants and antihypertensives
