Linezolid

Indications

Community acquired pneumonia, nosocomial pneumonia, complicated skin and skin structure infections, vancomycin resistant enterococcus faecium, febrile neutropenia septicaemia, endocarditis, osteomyelitis surgical prophylaxis.

Dosage

600mg every 12 hrs (b.I.d.).

Contra-Indications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Linezolid and any other product components.

Special Precautions

Use of antibiotics may promote over-growth of non-susceptible organisms

Side Effects

Fever, dizziness, oral moniliasis, vaginal moniliasis, hypertension, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, insomnia, rash, constipation, tongue discoloration, pruritus etc.

Drug Interactions

It is a reversible, nonselective inhibitor or monoamine oxidase, therefore has the potential to interact with adrenergic or serotonergic agents like tyramine, pseudoephedrine phenylpropanolamine. No CYP-450 inducedd drug interactions are expected with linezolid. As well as no interactions are expected with gentamicin and aztreonam.
