Liothyronine is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3), used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. It helps in regulating the body's energy and metabolism.

Indications

-Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) -Myxedema coma (severe hypothyroidism) -Thyroid hormone replacement therapy


Dosage

-Adults: Typically start with 25-50 mcg daily, adjusted based on thyroid levels. The dose may range from 25 mcg to 75 mcg daily, depending on the patient's needs. -Children: Dosage is adjusted according to age, weight, and clinical response.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Liothyronine -Untreated adrenal insufficiency -Acute myocardial infarction (MI) or thyrotoxicosis -Severe cardiovascular disorders -Hyperthyroidism
