LOSARATAN POTTASSIUM

Losartan Potassium is an antihypertensive medication used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) and to protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes. It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict.

Indications

-Hypertension: To lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of stroke. -Diabetic Nephropathy: To protect the kidneys in patients with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. -Heart Failure: To treat symptoms in patients with heart failure.


Dosage

-Initial Dose: Typically 50 mg once daily. -Maintenance Dose: May be adjusted to 25-100 mg once daily based on blood pressure response. -Maximum Dose: 100 mg per day.


Contra-Indications

-Pregnancy: Not recommended due to potential harm to the fetus. -Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Losartan or any other component of the formulation. -Severe Renal Impairment: Use with caution or avoid.


Special Precautions

-Renal Impairment: Monitor renal function regularly. -Volume Depletion: Correct any volume depletion before starting treatment. -Liver Disease: Dose adjustment may be necessary in patients with hepatic impairment.
