NARATRIPTAN



Indications

Only acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults.


Dosage

Single dose of 1-2.5mg orally with fluid. If patient has only partial response, the dose may be repeated once after 4 hours. Maximum dose of 5mg in 24 hours. Mild to moderate renal or hepatic impairment: maximum daily dose 2.5mg in 24 hours and a lower starting doses should be considered.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity, severe hepatic or renal impairment, Ischemic heart disease, uncontrolled HTN hemiplegic or basilar migraine, cerebrovascular syndrome, PVD.


Special Precautions

Try to limit use to 2 day/week as over use may cause rebound migraine, do not use within 24 hours of another 5HT1 agonist or ergot derivates. Use with caution n childred, pregnancy and lactation.


Side Effects

Severe allergic reactions, dizziness, drowsiness, tingling of the hand or feet, fatigue, nausea, dry mouth, unsteadiness, chest pain/pressure, throat pain/pressure, irregular pulse, one sided muscular weakness, vision problem, cold/bluish hands or feet, stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, mental/mood change, myocardial infarction, coronary artery vasospasm.


Drug Interactions

Serotonin syndrome may occur during combined use with SSRIs or SNRIs.
