OXITHAZINE

Oxithazine is an antipsychotic medication used primarily in the management of schizophrenia and other mental health disorders.

Indications

-Schizophrenia -Severe anxiety -Bipolar disorder


Dosage

-Adults: Typically, the starting dose is 10-20 mg per day, which can be adjusted based on clinical response and tolerability. The usual maintenance dose ranges from 30-60 mg per day. -Elderly: Dose adjustment may be necessary. Start with a lower dose and titrate carefully.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Oxithazine or any component of the formulation -Severe liver impairment


Special Precautions

-Monitor for signs of tardive dyskinesia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome. -Use cautiously in patients with cardiovascular disease. -Regular monitoring of liver function is recommended. -Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent withdrawal symptoms.


Side Effects

-Common: Drowsiness, weight gain, dry mouth, constipation. -Serious: Tardive dyskinesia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, severe allergic reactions.


Drug Interactions

-May interact with other CNS depressants, increasing sedation. -Potential interactions with antihypertensives, which could potentiate hypotensive effects. -Use caution when administering with other antipsychotic medications
