Pethidine Hydrochloride

Pethidine Hydrochloride

An opioid analgesic and sedative used for the treatment of moderate to severe pain.

Indications

Moderate to severe pain, Preoperative sedation, Analgesia during labor.


Dosage

Adults : 50 to 100mg I.M. or subcutaneously. Children : 1.1 to 1.8mg/kg I.M., or subcutaneouly 3 to 4 hours, not to exceed 100mg/dose.


Contra-Indications

Concomitant use of a MAO inhibitor or known hypersensitivity to this drug.


Special Precautions

It is used with caution in many conditions, including head injuries, asthma, seizures, impaired renal or hepatic function, or unstable cardiovascular status. It is not used if the patients has convulsive disorders.


Side Effects

Drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, seizures, constipation, sweating, respiratory and circulatory depression and drug addiction.


Drug Interactions

MAOIs, Ritonavir, Selegiline.
