Plecanatide

Plecanatide is a medication primarily used to treat chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C). It works by increasing fluid in the intestines, which helps soften stool and stimulate bowel movements.

Indications

-Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC) -Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation (IBS-C)

Dosage

-For CIC: 3 mg once daily. -For IBS-C: 3 mg once daily. -It is usually taken orally with or without food.

Contra-Indications

-Known hypersensitivity to plecanatide or any component of the formulation. -Patients with mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction.

Special Precautions

-Should be used cautiously in patients with severe dehydration. -Not recommended for children under 6 years old. -Caution should be exercised in elderly patients and those with a history of gastrointestinal conditions.
