This medication is a combination of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (a decongestant), diphenhydramine hydrochloride (an antihistamine), ammonium chloride (an expectorant), and sodium citrate (an alkalinizing agent). It is formulated to alleviate symptoms associated with upper respiratory tract congestion, allergies, and cough.This medication is indicated for the relief of nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, itchy/watery eyes, cough, and associated discomfort due to allergies, hay fever, or the common cold.
The recommended dosage for adults and children over 12 years old is one to two tablets every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 8 tablets in 24 hours. Children under 12 years old should consult a healthcare professional for appropriate dosage guidance.
This medication should not be used in patients with severe hypertension, severe coronary artery disease, narrow-angle glaucoma, or urinary retention. It is contraindicated in individuals who have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the past 14 days.
Caution should be exercised in patients with conditions such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, thyroid disease, diabetes, prostatic hypertrophy, or liver disease. Use with caution in elderly patients who may be more susceptible to the side effects of the medication.
Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and urinary retention. Serious side effects such as rapid or irregular heartbeat, difficulty urinating, or hallucinations should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately.
