PSEUDOEPHEDRINE SULPHATE

Pseudoephedrine Sulphate is a medication used as a decongestant to relieve nasal congestion caused by conditions such as the common cold, sinusitis, and allergies.

Indications

-Nasal congestion -Sinus congestion -Allergic rhinitis


Dosage

-Adults and Children over 12 years: Typically, 60 mg every 4-6 hours as needed, not to exceed 240 mg in 24 hours. -Children (6-12 years): 30 mg every 4-6 hours as needed, not to exceed 120 mg in 24 hours.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to pseudoephedrine or any component of the formulation -Severe hypertension -Severe coronary artery disease -MAO inhibitor use within the last 14 days


Special Precautions

-Use cautiously in patients with hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, or thyroid disorders. -Monitor for potential interactions with other medications. -Avoid use in children under 6 years unless prescribed by a physician.


Side Effects

-Common: Dizziness, insomnia, headache, dry mouth -Rare but serious: Increased blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, urinary retention


Drug Interactions

-MAO inhibitors (may cause hypertensive crisis) -Other sympathomimetics -Antihypertensives (may reduce their effectiveness) -Certain antidepressants and antihistamines
