Rupatadine Fumarate

Rupatadine Fumarate is an antihistamine used to treat allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria (hives). It works by blocking histamine receptors in the body, helping to reduce symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, and itching.

Indications

-Allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial) -Chronic urticaria (chronic hives)


Dosage

-Adults: 10 mg once daily. -Children (6-12 years): 5 mg once daily.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to rupatadine or any of its components. -Severe hepatic impairment.


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with renal impairment. -May cause drowsiness; caution advised when driving or operating machinery. -Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed.


Side Effects

-Drowsiness -Dry mouth -Fatigue -Headache -Gastrointestinal disturbances (e.g., nausea, diarrhea)


Drug Interactions

-Avoid concurrent use with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. -Caution when used with other antihistamines or sedatives.
