STREPTOCOCCUS FAECALIS

Streptococcus faecalis (now often referred to as Enterococcus faecalis) is a type of bacteria commonly found in the human gastrointestinal tract. It can be associated with infections in various parts of the body, including the urinary tract, endocardium, and wounds.

Indications

-Treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs) -Management of endocarditis -Treatment of wound infections -Used in some cases for gut health as a probiotic


Dosage

Dosage can vary based on the type and severity of the infection: -UTIs: Typically 250 mg to 500 mg every 6 to 12 hours -Endocarditis: 1 g every 6 hours, usually in combination with other antibiotics


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Enterococcus species -Severe immunocompromised conditions without medical supervision


Special Precautions

-Consult a healthcare provider before use if you have a compromised immune system or are undergoing severe medical treatment. -Use with caution in individuals with a history of endocarditis or other heart conditions.


Side Effects

-Generally well-tolerated; possible mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating or gas. -Rarely, risk of infection in immunocompromised individuals.
